The US Food and Drug Administration regulations allow the import of up to 3 months worth of prescription medication for personal use only. No prescription is needed for this import as long as the medication is approved by the FDA.
Other countries have similar exceptions for import for the purpose of regulating supply, financial assistance and to assist travellers carrying medication in their luggage.
